PKU Education Committee

An extremely important part of NPKUA is Education.  Grand Power has been entrusted with this responsibility. Our Efforts are twofold and we need lots of help from everyone:

1.) To provide a National NPKUA Conference: This year’s Inaugural conference entitled HIGH HOPES will be held in Dallas, Texas on the weekend of January 15 - 17, 2010. It is aimed at accomplishing the following goals:

  • To bring members of the PKU community (parents, young adults, grandparents, researchers, clinicians, vendors and pharmaceutical companies) together to meet and share information, ideas and progress on all aspects of PKU.
  • To learn, share, enjoy and be inspired by each other and the efforts taking place all over the country.
  • To commit to action and participation in all aspects of PKU treatment and research. We will share in the effort so that we may share in the success!

Help is neeed on the following committees:

  •    Marketing and P/R
  •    Content and Speakers
  •    Finance
  •    Entertainment
  •    Facilities
  •    Sponsorships and Vendor Relations

2.) To develop and administer programs and materials focused on awareness raising and management of PKU.  Examples are as follows:

“PKU in Your School” was a program developed through MACPAD last year and delivered to a number of schools very successfully.   It would take new energy, effort and resources to revise this program and extend it to many more schools.  This is where Grand Power comes in!

The Education Committee of Grand Power provides a central location and administration for Best Practices, a summary of experiences and “how tos” in the areas of PKU fundraising and PKU management.  Why reinvent the wheel every time an effort is made?  Our goal is to build a library of Best Practices, an invaluable support for on-going efforts.

Of course there are many other important contributions the Education Committee can make... and that's why we need lots of "Grand Power!"
